20 Questions.
1. How old were you when you knew your life was going to be art and when did you start for real? I started playing drums around 1964 when I was 12. Like most of the other kids across the country, I was crazy about the Beatles and Stones. They say the Yardbirds spawned a million garage bands -that was certainly true for me.
3. Were you single minded in this pursuit or did you train/educate for a "real" job? I never seriously considered doing anything but playing music ,I took whatever menial job that was around whenever necessary.I do however love owning and working in a record store and being a radio dj.
5. Who supported your decisions? My parents were always very supportive.My Dad bought me my first drumset.My folks loved music and there was always plenty to listen to around the house
6. Do you have family? And where are they? I have two children Billie and Ben who are both involved with various musical endeavors, a sister, Rosemary, her husband Jim and daughter Cheyenne, in Dallas and my wonderful wife Eve.
7. What gigs stand out to you, looking back? So many highlights-the Rome Inn with the T-Birds, Continental Club with The Leroi Bros. touring Europe with Doug Sahm, Chris Montez at the Ponderosa Stomp, Thee Unseen Eye in Switzerland, Bo Diddley at Panther Hall in Ft Worth, Jimmy Rogers, Hubert Sumlin, James Cotton etc. at Antone's, Gigs in Paris, London, Australia, and too many more to count.
8. Who did you like perforning with? Eve and the Exiles, LeRoi Bros, Alvin Crow, Denny Freeman, Gil T, Speedy Sparks, Steve and Joe Doerr, Sonny James, Lazy Lester, John X Reed, Pat Collins, Pete Mitchell, Charlie and Will Sexton, Thierry LeCoz, Don Leady, JJ Barrera, Freddie Cisneros, Jackie Newhouse, Hook Herrara, Gene Taylor--the list goes on and on and on and .......
13. How do you want to be remembered? Hopefully as a good person
14. What are you currently working on? Just finished a new Eve and the Exiles record and about to start a New LeRoi Bros. Also gearing up for the Ponderosa Stomp in New Orleans, where Eve, Speedy, Deke Dickerson and I will be backing up PF Sloan, Augie Meyers, Billy Boy Arnold and others.
19. Do you have pets, what kind? Have a Swamp Poodle named Lil' Bit.
