Wendy Simmons

Tip Jar asked Wendy Simmons

20 Questions.

1. How old were you when you knew your life was going to be art? I started playing piano when I was 6 but didn't get serious about it until I was 15. I basically was told that I was going to play the piano but when I got older I fell in love with it.

2. When did you start for real? I was the Minister of Music for the Young Adult choir at my church *1998* so I guess you could say I started for real when I got my first check! That's the saying right? Paid = Professional!

3. Were you single minded in this pursuit or did you train/educate for a "real" job? I went Weatherford Junior College with the intention of majoring in Law. I was standing in the law line during registration and saw the Music line and thought since I had spent just about my whole life doing something in music maybe I should stick with what I know! I regret that decision from time to time!

4. School - Did it help, hinder, or immaterial? At Weatherford Junior College I picked up the bass and was so addicted I thought I would further my education in music. I applied to Berklee College of Music with my primary instrument being bass. If I had to do it all over again I would. I've met some of the most important people of my life following my dumb dreams.

5. Who supported your decisions? Everyone supported my decision to pursue music. I had one family member who told me that music is just a hobby and I should treat it as such. You would think she was paying my bills or something.

6. Do you have family? My immediate family still live in my home town of Weatherford Texas.

7. What gigs stand out to you, looking back? Every gig stands out when I look back! Every chance I get to play with my band mates David Jimenez and David Carroll is an adventure!

8. Who did you like performing with? Baby Atlas.

9. What do you see as your best work? We've had the opportunity to record two albums and I never really like listening to myself after the album is all done but I think my best work is on our second album You Can Have It All, Sooner. I felt like I was telling a story via my bass. I love listening to that song. It's an amazing tune!

10. Has your outlook on fame changed since you've achieved it? Fame? All I know about Fame is that fantastic movie from the 80's. Still one of my favorites to be exact.

11. Has notoriety changed you? When I get some notoriety I'll let you know. Stay tuned!

12. Do you feel satisfied with yourself? Every chance I get to rock the stage with my band is extremely satisfying.

13. How do you want to be remembered? I want to be remembered as a good person who could play well.

14. What are you currently working on? I can currently be found behind the bass in the worlds most awesome band, Baby Atlas. Outside of that I I'm always composing.

15. Is it as easy as it looks? Everything can be easy but will there be any substance to said easy is the real question. I try to make everything look extra hard though so I can tell people it really is easy!

16. Is it fun? Absolutely! I wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't fun!

18. What would you say to wannabee performers? Listen to songs. Even if the genre isn't your "bag". Listen to it and maybe learn how to play stuff you really don't dig. You never know who will be calling and what they'll be needing. It's always good to be well rounded!

19. Do you have pets, what kind? I don't have any pets. Does a Sleepy Time Carebear count?

20. What's more important - Talent or hard work? If you work hard you will be talented so I say, why not both! Get to work!

21 Xtra. What is your take on MP3 downloads? Help yourself. I'm old school though. I like to have tangibles. I enjoy opening a new cd and popping it into my player. Getting into vinyl as well! Let the journey begin!
